Send a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF with outlined text) for screen printing and embroidery. For DTF, a PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI at print size works. If you only have a JPG or a small image, send the largest version you have; we may need to redraw it as vector.
Files by decoration method
| Method | Best file | Raster minimum | Colors | Fine detail |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screen printing | Vector (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF) | 300 DPI at print size | Spot colors; fewer is cheaper | Lines at least 1 pt |
| Embroidery | Vector or a clear image (we redraw it) | Clear image at print size | Up to 8 thread colors | Text at least 1/4 inch tall; details at least 1 mm |
| DTF | PNG with transparent background or vector | 300 DPI at print size | Any, including full color | Lines at least 0.5 mm |
Vector and raster files
A vector file is made of shapes, so it stays sharp at any size. A raster file, such as a JPG or PNG, is made of pixels and blurs when enlarged. Saving a JPG as a PDF or AI file does not make it vector. A quick test: zoom in to 800%. If edges stay crisp, it is likely vector.
Before you send
- Convert text to outlines, or send the fonts.
- Send the PMS (Pantone) colors if your brand has them, so ink and thread can be matched.
- Send a one color version if your logo has one, for single color prints and embroidery.
- For dark garments, send a version that works on dark backgrounds.
What digitizing means
Embroidery machines need a stitch file, not an image. Digitizing turns your logo into that stitch file. It is done once per logo and size, and very small text or fine gradients may be simplified so they stitch cleanly.
If you only have a JPG
Send the largest, clearest version you have, even a screenshot of your website logo. We will tell you if it works at your print size or needs to be redrawn as vector.
Frequently asked questions
- What file format do I need for screen printing?
- A vector file: AI, EPS, SVG or PDF with text converted to outlines. A 300 DPI image at full print size can work for simple designs.
- Can you print my logo from a JPG?
- Sometimes. A large, clear JPG can work for DTF. For screen printing and embroidery we may need to redraw it as vector.
- What is a vector logo?
- A logo built from shapes instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. Common vector formats are AI, EPS, SVG and PDF.
- What are PMS colors?
- Pantone Matching System colors, a standard set of numbered colors used to match ink and thread to your brand.
